Finding A Bright Spot in Valentine's Day

January is always a tough month. If you’re anything like me, you may feel like there is a lot of pressure to start off the year with a fresh start - organized, refreshed, and ready to take on a new year. But, these past couple years have been extremely hard on us all, and it feels more than ever we are forced to look at the new year a bit differently this year. I for one, am taking it more slowly. Things are closing down around us (again), and it’s looking like another long winter spent at home.

Our holiday decorations are all down, besides some winter greens I like to keep up to make the snow feel cozy, and while I love a clean slate, it’s nice to have a little holiday to look forward to.

Valentine’s Day will always be near and dear to my heart. Even before I was in a relationship, my girlfriends and I would always spend Valentine’s together - a nice dinner out and celebrating friendships. It became even more special when I actually met Nick on Valentine’s Day. It’s so fun now to bring little traditions to this special day with the kids, and it’s a nice little bright spot in an otherwise dull, dark and very cold New England winter.

I wanted to share some little pieces I’ve been loving the last couple years to celebrate Valentine’s Day. These little items can make everyday February mealtimes and long days inside feel just a little bit more special.

  1. Napkins - I love to keep these folded up in the basket on our kitchen island. They make it feel festive, and also are quick on hand for when we need them because… #toddlers

  2. Heart Plates

  3. Illustrated Letters of Jane Austen - Over Christmas, I found a new love in finding seasonal vintage/coffee table books and mixing them in around the house. This one is just perfect for Valentine’s Day and also doesn’t hurt it feels a little spring-y!

  4. Heart Bowl

  5. Heart Mixing Spoon

  6. Heart Felt Garland - love every single color combo they have

  7. Napkins

  8. Ruffled Heart Pie Dish

  9. Valentine’s Craft Kit

  10. Unable to find last year’s wooden heart DIY ornaments shown here, but also love these and these <3

  11. Valentine’s Mini Cookie Cutters

  12. Romeo & Juliet
